Victoria Jenna Earns Prestigious 'Magellan Award' from Travel Weekly for Luxury River Cruises on China's Yangtze

NEW YORK, NY (Nov. 2, 2010) – Victoria Cruises' (www.victoriacruises.com) newest, largest and most technologically advanced five-star river cruise ship, the Victoria Jenna, continues to rack up industry awards with a Silver Magellan Award in Travel Weekly's "River Cruise Ship" category. Making waves since its official launch on China’s mist-shrouded Yangtze River, the vessel had earned recognition on the West Coast earlier this year when it received a TravelAge West WAVE Award Editor's Pick for "Best New River Cruise Ship."

Raising the bar on five-star luxury river cruising, the Victoria Jenna (pictured right) clocks in at almost 10,000 gross tons with five passenger decks featuring 198 elegantly appointed staterooms, 40 of which are spacious suites. The remaining 158 staterooms are classified as Superior Staterooms as each one features a private balcony affording guests magnificent view of the temples and gorges that dot the Yangtze.

The Victoria Jenna also made history as the first river cruise ship in the world to possess four elevators as well as two separate full-service kitchens which provide customized meal requests such as gluten-free and vegetarian cuisine. All food on the ship is freshly- made. Grass-fed and non-hormone meats are used, and all pastries, breads and desserts are handmade.

The Victoria Jenna was also the first Victoria Cruises vessel to feature the award-winning line's Executive Suite Program. Featuring concierge service, spacious suite accommodations (pictured right), an exclusive lounge area and private, à la carte restaurant, "Executive Suites" provide discerning guests with a superior level of personalized, white-glove service beyond the five-star service routinely offered to other travelers on Victoria Cruises' lavish vessels.

"While the coveted, five-star rating the China National Tourism Administration has awarded seven of our ships is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a cruise vessel in China, we like to think of our new 'Executive Suite Decks' as the sixth star – surpassing all expectations for the most elegant river cruise experience imaginable," said Larry Greenman, manager of public relations and customer service for Victoria Cruises.

"All travelers enjoy preferential treatment, but for upscale guests it is an absolute necessity," noted Greenman.

The Victoria Jenna sails Victoria Cruises’ highly-acclaimed Three Gorges Highlights program (four nights upstream or three nights downstream) between Chongqing and Yichang, starting at US$780 per person, based on double occupancy, during peak season (April, May, September and October), and US$720 per person, based on double occupancy, during the 2011 shoulder season (March, June, July, August and November). Executive Suites on the Victoria Jenna start at US$1,590 and US$1,460 per person, double occupancy, respectively.

The Three Gorges Highlights program is Victoria Cruises' most popular, taking guests on a journey between Chongqing and Yichang with spectacular views of centuries-old pagodas nestled along the Yangtze.

In addition to onboard activities such as Tai Chi lessons and a host of nightly entertainment options (pictured right), the cruise features invigorating shore excursions such as the impressive Three Gorges Dam in Sandouping, an extraordinary feat of engineering and major highlight of the river cruise, as well as the “Ghost City” of Fengdu at Mingshan Hill.

A sailing experience through the impressive Small Gorges of the Daning River, one of the Yangtze's tributaries, will bring passengers to a floating dock near Dachang, where they will disembark to board a traditional sampan for a tranquil ride through the "Mini Gorges" of the Ma Du River, which is itself a tributary of the Daning (Daning River excursion may be substituted with Shennong Stream depending on river conditions).

The Daning River offers magnificent scenery and a chance to spot wild monkeys along the Yangtze's shores as well as hanging coffins - a remnan of the region's unique cultural heritage

The above excursions are available for a one-time fee of US$90, inclusive of all excursions.
