Three Gorges Highlights: Yichang to Chongqing

5 days/4 nights upstream itinerary

Sail upstream with an extra night to relax and enjoy the same great services and amenities aboard Victoria! See the spectacular scenery of the Three Gorges, with excursions and optional tours to spots of historic and cultural interest, a scenic Yangtze tributary, evening performance, and the monumental Three Gorges Dam project.

Day 1

Depart Yichang – late afternoon/early evening: Take a shuttle transfer from the Yichang Central Cruise Terminal to the nearby Maoping pier to embark on your Victoria ship (shuttle operates 4:30 pm–9:00 pm on a first come first serve basis; winter operation is between 6:00 pm-9:00pm, until the bus is full).

Day 2

Three Gorges Dam/Xiling Gorge – Visit the Three Gorges Dam, which spans the Yangtze River at Sandouping in Xiling Gorge. It is the world’s largest power station. Later today, sail through Xiling Gorge, the longest (41 miles) and deepest of the Three Gorges. (B, L, D)
Additional optional excursions available (river conditions permitting) to the Tribe of the Three Gorges or Hometown of Qu Yuan, offering Interesting glimpses into the culture and history of the Xiling Gorge region, and through the recently-completed unique ship lock with a ship lift, the world’s largest; it will be transited in about 40 minutes to an hour.

Day 3

“Small Gorges”/Wu Gorge/Qutang Gorge – Transfer to another vessel for an excursion through Shennong Stream small gorges, which are narrower than the Three Gorges, but very impressive. Depending on river conditions, an alternate excursion may be substituted to the gorges of Goddess Stream. Enter the 25-mile long Wu Gorge, known for its quiet beauty, forest covered mountains, and cliffs so sheer that the sun barely penetrates the precipices. Then sail through Qutang Gorge, the shortest (5 miles), narrowest (500 feet), and most dramatic gorge. (B, L, D)
Additional optional shore excursions (river conditions permitting) to White Emperor City (daytime), an ancient city overlooking the western end of Qutang Gorge, and a performance of the acclaimed hi-tech spectacle ”Return to the Three Gorges” (evening).

Day 4

Jade Emperor Scenic Area – Take a shore excursion to the Jade Emperor Scenic Area near Fengdu, which has the largest image of the Jade Buddha in the world. Depending on river conditions, an alternate excursion may be substituted to Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda. (B, L, D)
Additional optional shore excursion (river conditions permitting) to Fengdu’s “Ghost City”, known for its statues of ghosts and devils on Mingshan Hill.

Day 5

Arrive Chongqing – 9:00am: Disembark at picturesque Chongqing, the “Mountain City”. (B)

Itineraries and times are subject to change according to river conditions. Viewing of Xiling Gorge from the vessel may not always be available in daylight hours, depending on river and traffic conditions, and time of the year.

*On the Victoria Katarina, Victoria Lianna and Victoria Selina, Executive Superior Cabins receiving Executive Amenities are located on the Promenade, Bridge or Observation Decks; on the Victoria Anna, Victoria Grace and Victoria Jenna, Executive Superior Cabins receiving Executive Amenities are located on the Promenade or Bridge Decks.

  • All prices are per person in U.S. Dollars based on double occupancy in each cabin. Cruise prices include meals on board, but shore excursions are extra. For cruises departing in the evening, dinner is not provided the first night.
  • Single supplement: Add 75% of the cruise fare in a superior cabin and 100% of the cruise fare in a suite.
  • **Children under 12: Staying in the parents' cabin are charged 67% of the full cruise fare.
  • ***Children under 2: Staying in the parents' cabin are charged 10% of the full cruise fare.
  • Prices are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Service Charge: In lieu of tipping, Victoria Cruises charges Rmb. 150 (approximately US $25.00) for cruises of 5 days and under, and Rmb. 300 (approximately US $50.00) for cruises of 7 days and over, to be billed on passengers’ credit cards upon check-in. This service charge does not include a gratuity to our river guide or cruise director, which may be given at passengers’ discretion based on their satisfaction with services received, as can gratuities for additional special services requested by passengers.

**Parents with children 2 and over, and adults sharing a triple may find that a Superior Cabin is not roomy enough when a third bed or cot is placed in it. For such bookings, it is suggested that either a suite be reserved, or the third passsenger reserve as a single or share basis in a separate cabin.

***In a Superior Cabin, infants under 2 must stay in a bed with a parent.
