Depart Chongqing / Fengdu - 10:00am: Sail from picturesque Chongqing. Take a shore excursion to Fengdu’s “Ghost City” known for its statues of ghosts and devils on Mingshan Hill, or the new relocation village for families who have moved as a result of the Yangtze’s rising waters brought about by the Three Gorges Dam. Depending on river conditions, an alternate excursion may be substituted to Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda. (L, D)
Enter the Three Gorges / “Small Gorges” / Shiplocks- Enter the Three Gorges, one of nature’s most extraordinary sculptures. Qutang Gorge is the shortest (5 miles), narrowest (500 feet), and most dramatic. The 25-mile long Wu Gorge is known for its quiet beauty and forest-covered mountains. Transfer to another vessel for a relaxing excursion through the attractive gorges of Goddess Stream. Depending on river conditions, an alternate excursion may be substituted to the gorges of Shennong Stream. In the evening, sail through the Three Gorges Dam ship locks. Additional optional Shore Excursion to White Emperor City (river conditions permitting), an ancient city overlooking western Qutang Gorge. (B, L, D)
Three Gorges Dam / Yichang - Morning visit to the Three Gorges Dam in Xiling Gorge; it is the largest dam in the world. (B, L, D)
Wuhan - Afternoon excursion of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province. Visit the Hubei Provincial Museum. (B, L, D)
Jiuhuashan - Full day excursion to Jiuhuashan or “Mountain of the Nine Lotuses”, one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism. The one hundred square kilometer area is known for its quiet beauty, which includes ridges and peaks, winding paths, waterfalls, streams and ancient temples. (Huangshan or “Yellow Mountain” may be substituted if weather or road conditions do not permit a visit to Jiuhuashan.) (B, L, D)
Nanjing* - Visit Nanjing, where you will tour the Sun Yat–sen Memorial and a Qing Dynasty style bazaar surrounding a Confucian Temple. (B, L, D)

While the docking facilities at Nanjing are being upgraded, the Transportation Department has closed them to passenger ships. In the meantime, we will visit Yangzhou instead of Nanjing. Located on the north bank of the Yangtze, Yangzhou is the city where construction of the Grand Canal was initiated in 605 AD, and was a hub of land and water transportation. A charming city with rich cultural traditions, it was known during various periods for its great merchants, artists and scholars. Under Emperor Yang of Sui in the 7th century, Yangzhou was the southern capital of China. Marco Polo is said the have been the Governor General of the city for three years. Yangzhou has a beautiful manmade lake (Slender West Lake), dating from the Tang Dynasty (618-907SAD), surrounded by weeping willows and pavilions.
Arrive Shanghai - 8:00am: Disembark at Shanghai, China’s dynamic international commercial center. (B)
